“Good morning! This is Kuan Yin.

Think on the miracle that is candle. A little wax, a length of string, a burst of fire, and you have light and heat. A candle could be said to have personality, gaze a while into the heart of a living candle flame and you feel presence, a knowingness. It is no accident that from the beginning of time and fire people have used this flame for meditation, for comfort against the darkness, to find a place of deep stillness.

A candle is not much use to anyone if it remains unlit. It requires a conscious action to bring this vehicle to life, to light. If you are reading this, it is likely that you are already lighted up in some way.

.

It is remarkable how many souls are walking the earth that have no spiritual life at all, and no curiosity about it. People feel lonely, isolated, even within work and family. There has been much controversy about churches and religion, and many beings have fallen away from organized spiritual gatherings. For good or ill, these gatherings did encourage people to think about and explore their spiritual nature at least a little.

It is fine to go off and pursue your spiritual life in a solitary way, with study and meditation, if you will do it. This requires discipline and a high level of discernment. This path can also create a kind of isolation, where a being does not shine any of its light to others.

.

The great teacher, Master Sha, tells us that,

“The purpose of life is to serve.”

.

What is service? People flinch at the word sometimes, having visions of going forth into the multitudes, feeding great mobs of the hungry, laying hands on the sick. While this is laudable, it is by no means the whole story of service. Beings have a suspicion that living a life of service means giving up the life they want, sacrificing something in some way. Well maybe, and that is not a bad thing, but not necessary.

Service means connecting to others in a mindful, loving, and un-judging way, sharing words of hope and healing, offering a teaching that might help to open a heart or a mind. It is to offer possibility, alternatives, connection. Humans on this planet are literally starving for connection, not just conversation or relationship, but real heart-to-heart love. It is rare. It doesn’t have to be out loud, though it can be.

..

Do you see that serving all souls is the key to real freedom? See yourself connected to all souls, serving them, loving them, dancing and singing through all universes forever! One with the holy ones, one with the Source. This is immortality.

.

What happens in a dark room filled with candles? Until someone lights one, it remains a dark room. One candle creates a little pool of light, warm and living, but not very big. If that candle leans over and touches the wick of the candle next to it, then there is more light! If this continues, this leaning toward, and igniting the other candles, you will quickly have a room fully lit, blazing with united light.

In the end, light is always triumphant, but this bringing of light requires attention, persistence, courage. Like anything else if this mindful kindling of light is neglected or forgotten, this give the darkness an opportunity to swarm in, and it will. Make no mistake my beloveds, the darkness does not want you to succeed in this. Where do you think these great storms come from? The violence? War? Political division? The collective karma of humanity is, as the saying goes, the chickens coming home to roost. The world as you know it rides on a knife’s edge.

.

As the teacher also says, difficult times create heroes. Can you be a hero? A candle lighter? A server?

.

It can be a simple as placing your hand on someone’s heart, looking into their eyes, and saying,

“What can I do for you? Tell me a story. I am listening. I appreciate you. Here is my attention, here is my love. There is hope, there is light, you are not alone.”

.

It can also be a big step, going full steam ahead into a life as a healer, or a teacher, liberating yourself to your highest potential through continuous mindful service. Why not? Why ever not.

.

One good loving action creates another, and another, and it is the truth that no blessing is wasted or unobserved by Heaven.

Be a hero, a candle, a teacher, a healer. The time for sitting on the fence or remaining asleep has come and gone.

That is all. I love you.”
